The function of the Acute Hospital Unit Division is to develop, and oversee implementation of Government policy in relation to acute hospital services, including cancer, blood and organ transplantation services.
The Acute Hospital Unit is responsible for driving structural reform and reconfiguration in the acute hospital sector in line with Government policy, in order to provide faster access for patients to high quality services and to prepare for the introduction of a single tier system of hospital care supported by Universal Health Insurance.
