The recent DML regional meeting, held on 26th March, was chaired by Pat O’Boyle, CEO of the Dublin Dental University Hospital and chairperson of the DML region. Tony O’Brien, Chief Operations Officer, of the Special Delivery Unit (SDU), the Department of Health presented an update of the work of the SDU to the large attendance.
Starting with “who we are”, to “what we do and how we do it”, Tony outlined the objectives of the SDU. He discussed the development of a new accountability framework and resource re-allocation. Using real time examples, he demonstrated how web based patient monitoring and trolley GAR are effective tools in realising change. In considering the impact of the work of the SDU to date, he offered insights into the hazards/dilemmas which arise.
